USCG Approved and STCW-95 Compliant Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA) Course
A team of professional licensed mariners teaches the 5-day
Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA) course. The course is
conducted utilizing state of the art
simulators, which replicate the actual controls and displays of an ARPA unit.
The course provides comprehensive training in the proper use of commercial marine ARPA units, theory, limitations, diagnosis of errors, effective communications between watch standers, voice radio communications, and zero visibility pilotage environments.
The first day of class is for Unlimited Radar Recertification. The remaining 4-days include formal classroom training coupled with intensive hands - on practice and assessments using the ARPA simulator.
Upon successful completion of the course you will have satisfied the following requirements:
- 46CFR 10.205(m)(1) and the recommendations of the IMO resolution A.428 (XII)
- Be considered to have successfully demonstrated the competence Use of Radar and ARPA to Maintain Safety of Navigation of Table A-II/1 of the STCW Code
- Be considered to have successfully demonstrated the competence Maintain Through the Use of Radar and ARPA and Modern Navigation Systems to Assist Command Decision Making of Table A-II/2 of the STCW Code
- Requirements of 46CFR 10.480(d) for renewal of any Radar Observer endorsement.
