USCG Approved And STCW-95 Compliant Communication (Flashing Light) Course

A team of professional licensed Mariners teaches the Houston Marine 11.75-Hr. Visual Communications Course. The course has an open enrollment and is taught as a self-paced course with instructor assistance available as needed. A qualified instructor will administer the final exam when you are ready.

Students will learn Morse code characters for the alphabet and numerals 0-9. The final exam consists of the student recognizing, recording and decoding flashing light signal codes from Pub No. 102 at 6 words per minute (WPM).

Upon successful completion of the course you will have satisfied the following USCG Requirements:
  • Satisfy the practical signaling examination requirements (flashing light) of 46CFR 10.401(h)
  • Successfully demonstrated the competence Transmit and Receive Information by visual Signaling of Table A-II/1 of the Seafarers' Training, Certification and Watch keeping (STCW) Code.
